Lloyd W. Mills, 77, died Nov. 19, 2004, at his home in Wellington, after a month-long illness.
Mr. Mills was born July 27, 1927, in Muskegon, Mich., to Charles and Nora Mills. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Plaice, SS-390 from 1945 to 1948. He returned to Muskegon to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic to study civil engineering, and he also became a home builder.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June Mills, who lost her battle with cancer in 1987.
Mr. Mills lived in Seal Beach, Calif., from 1963-1990, and worked as a civil engineer during those years in Long Beach and Pasadena, Calif. He built homes in Bermuda Dunes, Calif., and Idyllwild, Calif., before moving to Gardnerville in 2000.
In August 2001 at the age of 75, he broke ground in Wellington to construct a straw-bale house powered entirely by solar panels. He had great pride in constructing this straw-bale solar house as an owner/builder. He loved sharing his knowledge of building and design, and spending time with his grandchildren. He accepted Jesus Christ into his life in 2002.
Mr. Mills is survived by his brother, Jack Mills, of Virginia Beach, S.C.; and his five children, Debbie Mills, Huntington Beach, Calif.; Greg Mills, Newport Beach, Calif.; Randy Mills, Surfside, Calif.; Vicki Mills, Utah; Brad Mills, Huntington Beach, Calif., and six grandchildren, Amethyst, Ashlee, Nicole, Brittney, Gregory, Rachel, and three great-grandchildren.
A small memorial was held in his home in Wellington on Sunday. Cremation has taken place according to his request. In lieu of flowers, please pray for peace and good health care for all in this world.
Arrangements were in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.
