Photo courtesy Nevada Historical Society This photo from the late 1860s shows the Bowie Mill site along Six Mile Canyon Road just south of Virginia City. Though most roads leading to the Comstock were toll roads, Six Mile Canyon Road, then called "The Road From Virginia City to Ragtown," was not.
From the days of the Comstock Lode, most of the roads heading into Virginia City were toll roads operated by private companies. All except one.
