Reno roofing contractor receives award

D&amp;D Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc. received a Partner in Quality Award from Firestone Building Products Co. This award distinguishes D&amp;D Roofing for its dedication to installing quality roofing systems.

The award recognizes contractors who install a minimum of four warranted Firestone roofs in each of the past five years, maintained at least 1 million square feet of roofs under warranty, and achieved an annual Quality Incidence Rating of 2.0 or less.



CMM launches Medicaid fraud-detection effort

In an effort to halt theft, inappropriate use and simple mistakes that drain critical Medicaid dollars, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has launched an effort to detect and prevent fraud and abuse.

The Medicaid Integrity Program (MIP) will be closely coordinated with groups such as Medi-Medi, a pilot project to share data to detect improper billing and utilization patterns; and the Payment Error Rate Measurement Program, designed to calculate Medicaid payment error rates.



Disaster assistance available for small businesses

Small non-farm businesses in Nevada and California counties may apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues to farmers and ranchers caused by adverse weather conditions.

Businesses in Placer, El Dorado, Nevada, Sutter, Yuba, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Lassen and Sierra counties in California and the Nevada counties of Douglas and Washoe and Carson City may apply.

Nevadaworks names Glenn and Annis to its board

The Nevadaworks board has named Valerie Glenn to serve as chairwoman and Jim Annis as chairman-elect for a two-year term beginning this month.

Glenn is president of the Rose/Glenn Group, a full-service marketing and public relations services agency. She has 30 years experience in advertising and communications, and brings a wide range of experience through numerous board of director and chairmanship positions.

Annis is president of Applied Staffing Solutions, LLC, offering expertise in safely, legally and efficiently managing employees and outstanding employee benefits. He has extensive experience with employment and staffing as a business owner and manager, and brings a thorough understanding of employment issues facing the Northern Nevada business community.



Dana Dye named to advisory committee

Dana Dye, MPA, RN, and chief nursing officer for Washoe Medical Center, has been appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Health Sciences Center for the Nevada System of Higher Education.

The group is an ad hoc committee made up of health-care leaders on behalf of the board of regents. Dye will serve a one-year term helping to create uniformity among state institutions with medical programs.

The committee meets once a month and is made up of more than two dozen medical leaders throughout Nevada. Prior to joining Washoe Med in 2005, Dye was CNO at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo., where she was also the ethics and compliance officer. She is a member of the Nevada Governor's Commission on Medical Education, Research and Training.



CFA hires Jennifer Jones as landscape designer

CFA, Inc., a multidisciplinary consulting firm specializing in planning, civil engineering, landscape architecture and surveying, recently hired Jennifer Jones as landscape designer.

Jones will assist architects in preparing landscape and irrigation plans, GIS analysis and computer display graphics.

Jones was a graduate research assistant at the University of Arizona, where she assisted in identifying appropriate areas for public access along flash-flood drainage systems.

She received her bachelor of science degree in biology and environmental studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz and her master's in landscape architecture from the University of Arizona.

She is a member of the Sigma Lambda Alpha honor society for landscape architecture.



Simonelli to serve as firm's chief legal adviser

Kummer, Kaempfer, Bonner, Renshaw &amp; Ferrario named litigation partner and trial attorney Lyssa M. Simonelli to be its general counsel during its board of directors meeting in June.

Simonelli will be the firm's chief legal adviser for its offices in Las Vegas, Reno and Carson City.
