Carson City

Museum to hold coin show this weekend

The 14th Annual Carson City Mint Coin Show will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St.

There will be more than 40 coin vendors and dealers offering free appraisals and quality merchandise for sale or trade. There will be a raffle to support educational programs. Ticket holders do not need to be present to win.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors, and free for those under 18. Rusty Goe, author of "James Crawford: Master of the Mint at Carson City" will be holding a book signing during the show. Call 687-4810 ext. 237.

'Sizzlin' Summer Shopping Spree' has multitude of vendors

Consultants from Jafra Cosmetics, Tupperware, Home Interiors &amp; Gifts, Cachet Candles, Cookie Lee Jewelry, and Princess House &amp; Canine Creations will be gathered at one place for the "Sizzlin' Summer Shopping Spree" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 4051 Lepire Drive. Streets to close for Carson High fundraiser

Curry Street, between West William and John streets, will be closed from 5 to midnight tonight for the Carson High School Dinner, Dance and Silent Auction annual fundraiser. Alternate routes of travel are North Carson and Division streets. For information, call 882-7207.



Carson Lanes offers free bowling this weekend

In honor of National Bowling Week, Carson Lanes, 4600 Snyder Ave., is inviting the public to bowl free of charge from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This is designed to introduce children and adults to bowling. Two free games of bowling, rental shoes included, are offered, along with free coaching, discounted food and drinks and door prizes.

There will also be face painting, clowns, music, arts and crafts, a bounce house, and free cotton candy. Call 883-2606.

Ron Wood offers free tutor training

There will be a free tutor training orientation and workshop from 2-4 p.m. today at the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, 212 E. Winnie Lane.

Washoe County

Stargaze party Saturday

The Astronomical Society of Nevada and park rangers will be holding an evening of star and planet gazing from 8-11 p.m. today at Washoe Lake State Park. There will be high-powered telescopes to view the moons of Jupiter. Participants should bring a jacket and meet at the overflow boat parking area east of the main group area. Call 687-4319.



Lake Tahoe

Kids Superhero play in South Tahoe

The Lake Tahoe Writing Club at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday presents the original World War II Kids' Superhero Radio Play "Capt. Thunder and the Nazis" in the Valhalla Boathouse Theatre.

This radio play features Capt. Thunder from the town of Harmony Cove who's on a mission to fight for liberty.
