Pink lights will glow at hospital, Capitol dome

Print Comment

When the pink lights turn on Thursday evening at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, health officials hope passers-by will be reminded about the leading cause of death for women ages 40 to 59: breast cancer.

Starting this weekend, lights at the Legislature Complex and Carson City Hall, as well as downtown Carson Street lamps, will glow pink in recognition of the fifth annual Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

"Statistics show that one in nine women will develop breast cancer," said Diane Rush, Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare's marketing coordinator, in a press release. "Think Pink is our way of encouraging women to take control of their health. Yearly mammograms, self-breast exams and once-a-year clinical exams can help save your life. Driving through our region during the month of October will be a constant reminder that everyone can benefit by Thinking Pink and being aware."

Lights were coordinated with the help of Briggs Electric and state and city building and grounds staff.

For information on Carson Tahoe's Breast Cancer Awareness campaign Think Pink call Carson Tahoe Cancer Services at 885-4281.
