Two evenings next week will be devoted to providing residents with information about an array of local and state candidates.
The Northern Nevada League of Women Voters will moderate free question-and-answer sessions with candidates 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and on Oct. 19 in the Black Box Theatre at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St.
"Our goal is to inform," said Nancy Scott, the group's program chairwoman. "We're nonpartisan."
This year, there won't be a live feed because the theater isn't equipped for it. Residents used to be able to call in questions for candidates from home when the event was broadcast live.
People who have specific questions to ask the candidates will need to come to the forums.
The forums in 2004 were in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, a location equipped for live broadcast, but the room wasn't available this year, Scott said.
Tuesday's session will kick off with candidates for Assembly District 40, university board of regents, Carson City's justice of the peace and district attorney.
Oct. 19 will be when Carson City supervisors and school board trustees are highlighted.
"These are the people we really wanted," Scott said of the list.
The Nevada Appeal is co-sponsoring the forums.
Founded in 1920, the League of Women Voters is a grass-roots organization working at the national, state and local levels. It has representatives in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Hong Kong.
League of Women Voters of Carson City and the League of Women Voters of Truckee Meadows merged in 2003 to create the regional organization.
