A CHS junior, Erienne Overli, was elected Lt. Governor for district 45 which includes Tahoe, Carson City and Gardnerville. Key Club hopes to attract more new members next year.
This past week was National Teacher Appreciation Week, and teachers were rewarded each day with a small gift from the PTSA, Senator Pride, and/or OCEA. The administration treated teachers to a continental breakfast on Tuesday, and Leadership provided breakfast on Friday.
After school on Tuesday, a raffle was held where many generous gift certificates were given to staff members. We would like to thank the many local businesses who so generously offered these gift certificates, and Erin Been, P.E. teacher, for her never-ending efforts in gathering them.
The first fifth-grade field day was held at Carson High on May 5. All fifth- graders in the district attended and had a really fun time. These future Senators competed in an Obstacle Course, Bean Bag Toss, Sack Relay, Balloon Pop Relay and Egg Spoon Relay. They took a tour of the high school, and the students were given T-shirts sponsored by local businesses and PTAs.
Three of the elementary schools participated in the morning events, and the other three participated in the afternoon. The winning school in the morning was Empire Elementary, and the winning school in the afternoon was Bordewich-Bray.
The CHS Blue Thunder Marching Band is holding its "Sounds of Summer" program, which is open to all band students (public or home-schooled) entering fifth through eighth grades this fall.
Some of the activities planned are one-on-one tutoring, learning to play a new piece along with the CHS band, and learning and executing a marching formation. Participating students will receive lunch and a T-shirt. The cost is $30 per session date. The available dates are June 14, 16, 21 and 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the CHS band room. Please contact Lisa Holland for more information or to sign-up, at 884-3755 or e-mail flipper678@aol.com by May 31.
