We must get tougher on illegal immigration
The Immigration and Naturalization Service, under the U.S. government, is responsible for enforcing our immigration laws, for approving or denying passports and for various other activities.
I'm not here to give unwarranted criticism to the INS, but to merely point out that they have an impossible task to perform, given that they are apparently grossly under-staffed and lack the funds to acquire the necessary equipment and facilities to perform the task. I believe that the INS is doing all that they can, within their limitations, to deport the overwhelming numbers of illegals that are presently in the country. It's like shoveling sand against the tide!
Our congressional members are famous for creating laws that are almost impossible to enforce due to the inability of the responsible enforcement agency.
I learned decades ago that it is meaningless to levy rules and regulations without imposing severe penalties for the breaking of those rules.
And therein lies the problem. Slapping the hands of our illegals, telling them not to do it again and then deporting them, isn't getting it done. We make living conditions too pleasurable for illegals.

Nothing in Constitution supports gay marriage
In response to a high school student's letter supporting gay marriage: Evidently, the writer does not understand the concept of, or reason for, the term "marriage," or even the existence within the Natural Law, which governs the operation of the entire universe in accord with the design by the Creator (the One acknowledged by the Founding Fathers as the source from whom we, the people, assumed our inalienable rights of " ... life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness ...") for the procreation of all human life and His command to that first man and woman to " ... go forth and multiply."
This is the intrinsic concept of and logic for "marriage" which has been recognized and upheld by every civilization to date, except those peoples of Sodom and Gomorra, none of whom still exist!
It not only upholds the beliefs of Christianity, upon which this government was formed, but adheres to the Natural Law recognized by every civilization, regardless of religion.
Therefore, based upon scientific knowledge and the moral formulation of previous civilizations, her assertion that disallowing "gay marriages" breaks the First Amendment is invalid. As for the 5th Amendment: her assertion that "most people" consider "gay marriage" normal is blatantly false! As for the 14th Amendment: this amendment has nothing to do with any aberrant "marriage."
Since every state, prior to inclusion in the Union, accepted the privileges and duties tangent to such inclusion, each state is therefore, bound by these laws, which were, as she put it, "set down in the beginning to hold this country together."
As for causing "them" pain: she places the blame on the wrong persons. We are each responsible for our own actions. Therefore, if we act outside what is considered morally and lawfully right, we must accept the responsibility of our actions.
The practice of homosexuality conflicts with the laws of the Creator of which mankind has been appraised, and, for which each shall be held accountable.

Gibbons has plenty of experience
With great amusement, I read a recent editorial of the Nevada Appeal which grudgingly congratulated Governor Gibbons for keeping his campaign promises not to raise taxes. The article claimed Gibbons to be "inexperienced."
May I remind the editor that Jim Gibbons is a five-term U. S. Congressman and a four-term Nevada assemblyman.
I hardly think Jim can be referred to as "inexperienced." Perhaps this is still sour grapes that the Republicans won the last election.
