Senator Junior Midgets win opener

The Carson Senators Junior Midget youth football team opened its season on Friday with a 32-6 win over the Reno Patriots.

Carson's defense finished the game with a goal line stand. Outstanding offensive line play came from Austin Brown, Cameron Arnold, Zachary Kinder, Matthew Buscay and Gunner Harper.

Senator quarterback Cole Dufresne and Andrew Johnson, Austin Barraza and Clint Page were able to score five touchdowns.

"The boys worked very hard for six weeks to prepare for the opening game," head coach Bill Tincup said. "They earned every bit of this victory and I'm proud of every one of them."

The defense was lead by Barraza, Marc Tincup, Brandon Akers and Michael Bass, Zach Kinder, Page, Dufresne, Luis Pastrana, Willy McDonald, Cody Scarlet, Brendon Steinmeyer, Michael Wemheuer, Nick Scott, Brock Pradare, Mikel Hafeman and Sean Robles.

"I'm proud of the boys for working so hard at learning the defensive schemes and I'm excited to see them learn and get stronger as the season moves on," defensive coordinator Shawn Akers said.

Carson will next play at noon Saturday against Feather River at Governor's Field.

First Presbyterian golf tournament set

First Presbyterian Church will hold a benefit golf tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. October 4 at Empire Ranch Golf Course.

Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. with a 9 shotgun start. Entry fee is $100 per player or $400 per foursome. Deadline for registration is September 20.

Included in the fee is greens fee, cart, lunch (at 1 p.m.), trophies, door prizes, two beverage tickets and a goodies bag. Also available are drawings, mulligans and hole prizes.

Proceeds benefit First Presbyterian Church's "Raise the Roof" sanctuary raising fund. For more information, call 884-2900.

Harn fires hole-in-one at EagleValley

Carrie Harn recently fired her first hole-in-one at Eagle Valley's East Course. She used a 3-wood from the red tee on the 145-yard eighth hole. Sylvia Gloster, Marge Belford and Pearl Gulbranson witnessed the shot.
