Lyon to consider amending animal law to include cruelty

Print Comment
Some nonsanctioned rodeos could be affected if the Lyon County Commission amends its animal control ordinance.

Sections on animal fighting, injury and overwork, and a ban on cruelty during performances such as rodeos could be added to Lyon County’s animal control ordinance.

Commissioner Larry McPherson has proposed the additions be included after hearing complaints that some rodeo events at the Dayton Valley Events Center include events such as “horse tripping” or “steer tailing,” that he said constitutes cruelty to animals.

The amendment will be proposed at the Lyon County Commission meeting Thursday.
