CHS skiers notch first win of season

Appeal Staff Report

With her boys and girls teams competing against a combined two Hug competitors, Carson High School skiing coach Adrienne Garbiel's Senators ended up competing more with the elements than their opponents in earning their first win in their season opener Monday at Mt. Rose Ski Resort.

"We got a foot of snow. Our skiers were quite brave skiing," Garbiel said. "You could barely ski 10 meters in front of you. It was dumping today. It's good that we finished."

The teams competed in only the giant slalom event, with Spencer Brinson taking first for the CHS boys with a time of 39.8 seconds.

Kacey Potter took first for the CHS girls at 42.4.

Hug's Bryan Weiss finished 17th (78.1) for the Hug boys and Teva Noi took 11th (138.6).

Carson will face a full squad when it goes against North Valleys today at noon, also at Mt. Rose.

Garbiel has just two requests: "We want some sunny days and good visibility."

Clayton Hollett took second for the CHS boys (41.4), followed by Kirk Anderson (43.0), Taylor Phillips (44.4), Andy Hook (45.9), Nate Eng (46.3), Cameron Childers (46.4), Mike Weidemann (47.2), Evan Richards (47.6) and Nik Marsh (48.0).

Nicole Carlevato finished second for the girls (47.8), followed by Tina Midbowe (49.8), Krissie Gunn (51.6), Danielle Beasom (52.9), Katie Carter (53.6), Katie Carlevato (59.9), Taylor Stokes (60.0), Rebecca Robertson (64.2) and Emma Kortemeier (77.3).
