A widespread cable and Internet outage for Charter Communication customers that began this afternoon continues with some restoration in the Stateline and South Lake Tahoe areas this evening. Service in Carson City and Carson Valley is still down as of 9:30 tonight.
The outage began at around 4:30 this afternoon, with some Charter service restored at around 9 p.m. this evening in limited areas. The Nevada Appeal Web site has been affected by the outage.
According to a Charter Communication spokesman, service could be restored to the Carson City and Carson Valley areas by 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
The following release is from Charter Communications:
Please be advised that at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2008, Charter Communications was advised that four service poles in the Washoe Valley area near the entrance to Washoe State Park were knocked down due to an accident involving an 18-wheel vehicle.
The affected poles provide cable television services to the Washoe Valley, Carson City, Fernley, Fallon, Minden, Gardnerville, Dayton, and South Lake Tahoe areas and have rendered those services non-operational.
At this time, all cable services including video, high speed data, and telephone are affected.
Charter Communications supervisors and technicians have been dispatched to the area and are actively working to survey the damage and begin repairs.
Due to the fact that power poles are down and live we are not allowed access to the affected area until it has been secured by the power company. Until that time, there is no estimate regarding when services will be restored.
