On April 17, Advisor Misty Harris and the students of Link Crew will be hosting a Freshman Orientation for current eighth graders who will be enrolling at Carson High School in the fall of 2008.
Future students will take a tour of the building, meet teachers and learn about opportunities available to them at CHS. Student leaders will answer questions and mentor these incoming students as they learn about the possibilities that high school can hold for them.
Students who were selected for the Nevada All-State Choir will be traveling to Las Vegas to participate in this statewide honor choir April 16-19. In addition to the 14 students selected from Carson High for this 175-member ensemble, students also compete in the Solo and Ensemble festival in Ham Hall on the UNLV campus through a convention sponsored by the Nevada Music Educators Association.
Senior Elise Sala, was the only vocal soloist selected from the northern region and a small women's ensemble consisting of Elise Sala, Alora Collier, Brynn Garrett, Carinne Powell, Brittney Kinsey and Janelle Mahoney will compete in the ensemble portion.
The CHS Club Council has established April 14-18 as "Diversity Days," where any club that wants to celebrate different cultures can plan activities for the school.
Currently, the Genshiken Club is sponsoring Tuesday's activities to promote the Japanese culture, FCA is bringing a sport from another to lunchtime on Wednesday and ECHO will be celebrating the Hispanic culture on Thursday. This event is coordinated by the CHS Student Leadership under the direction of Jen Tartan.
Do you have an old instrument collecting dust in your garage or attic? If so, the CHS Tri-M Honor Society will be holding what they hope to be an annual community service project. During the week of May 5-10, students will be collecting instruments (even those in great need of repair) to be fixed and donated to needy students desiring to play an instrument in their elementary music programs.
Instruments can be dropped off at CHS labeled "Tri-M" or can be picked up from your home. Donations are tax deductible. If you have or know of someone who has an instrument that they would be interesting in donating, please call advisor Susan Sonnemaker at 283-1778.
