Not an Idiot Asylum. Yesterday the Appeal received an anonymous note from a lady in this city stating her husband was very much addicted to gambling. The Appeal has too much on its hands to try to attempt to reform this type of people.

John Gates, a former resident of Carson City, ended his life in San Francisco by swallowing cyanide of potassium. Gates said he had gained and lost three fortunes and was going to try again in San Francisco while a resident here.
70 years ago
For the first time in the city's history, the Carson Safeway Store was picketed by union organizers. There has been no trouble between the Safeway management and local employees.
50 years ago
Las Vegas attorney George Franklin Jr., today was the first Democrat to announce his candidacy for the party's gubernatorial nomination. Franklin sharply attacked GOP Gov. Charles Russell, who was characterized by the attorney as an administration of inactivity.
20 years ago
The city's general obligation bond commission approves a $6.9 million dollar bond for Carson Tahoe Hospitals $8.1 million expansion project.
10 years ago
A fire two weeks ago destroyed an empty building at 406 N. Carson Street and nearby business owners were still cleaning out remnants of the fire. One business remained without power during the cleanup process.
