120 years ago

Several days past Livingston's bar-keeper noticed a rat was making himself familiar with the saloon. He would sneak from behind the counter and get himself some cheese and cracker. Then he would sip under the beer faucet to take a drink. He sampled all the brands and settled on Jake Klien's for a steady drink.

100 years ago

A suit was dismissed yesterday in the United States Court in connection with the mint scandal some years ago. The scandal grew out of a shortage at the Carson Mint of some 3,000 ounces of gold taken by two employees.

70 years ago

Headed by Chef de Gar Arthur Kelly and Conductor George Egan, local members of the honor branch society of The American Legion left by automobile this afternoon for Hawthorne where they will stage a "wreck" late this evening. The wreck is a prelude to the fourth district convention in Hawthorne tomorrow.

When the Carson and Barnes circus came to town Saturday (photo caption), it was only fitting that one of its elephants should call on Republican Gov. Charles Russell at the executive mansion and present him with a formal invitation to attend.
