One man is dead in an early morning single vehicle rollover on Highway 395 about a half mile south of Leviathan Mine Road.

Cpl. Micah Richmond, 27, an Iraq war veteran, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies received a 1:50 a.m. call saying there was what appeared to be a disabled vehicle off the east side of the highway in the brush with evidence of a crash, but no one in the vehicle.

Deputy Rick Koontz Sr. responded to check on the vehicle and after examining it determined it had been in a rollover and called for help looking for the driver.

The victim was found about 200 feet from the vehicle where it appeared he’d been ejected as it rolled over.

He was identified as a Marine stationed at Mountain Warfare Training Center at Pickel Meadows.

No passengers were located at the scene.
