McCain cancels Reno visit

RENO — Republican presidential nominee John McCain will not be visiting Nevada this week after all.

Campaign spokesman Rick Gorka says McCain had only tentatively planned a trip to Reno on Thursday but now will not be making that trip.

There was no immediate information on where the Arizona senator will be instead.

Thursday is the night of the first vice presidential debate between Delaware Senator Joe Biden and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in St. Louis, Mo.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is scheduled to give a speech Tuesday morning on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney still plans to make an appearance on behalf of McCain on Thursday. President Bush is speaking on Friday to the White House Conference on North American Wildlife Police in Reno at the Silver Legacy hotel-casino.
