Ellie Lopez-Bowlan of Reno has announced her candidacy for the Nevada Assembly seat being vacated by Ty Cobb.
District 26 represents south Reno, Washoe Valley and a small part of north Carson City as well as part of North Lake Tahoe.
Bowlan is a nurse practitioner and a spokesman for Hispanic causes as well as president of the Mt. Rose Republican Women. She said she opposes “higher, job killing taxes.”
“We simply cannot continue growing government at a time when our unemployment numbers keep getting worse,” she said.
She said she would not create a single new program or expand an existing government program until the economy recovers.
In addition to hours of public service in area schools, she has served on organizations including the state Board of Nursing, Nevada Academy of Health and the Governor's Maternal and Child Health Advisory Board.
Cobb is leaving the seat to run for the state Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Randolph Townsend.
