Peace officer honored



The Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Commission held a ceremony Wednesday honoring Carson City Sheriff John L. Blackburn who was the first Nevada peace officer killed in the line of duty in 1861. A new plaque was placed in the Pioneer Cemetery at the west end of Fifth Street on the 148th anniversary of his death. The Carson City Sheriffs Department Honor Guard and law enforcement members from around the region participated in the ceremony.
