Public invited to BLM transmission line workshop

The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District Office, will host a workshop from 4-6 p.m. Dec. 9 to develop alternatives for the proposed Blackhawk to Heybourne 120 kV Transmission Line Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that is under way.

The public is invited to attend the workshop at 5665 Morgan Mill Road.

The EIS will analyze the impacts resulting from construction of a transmission line and two new substations proposed in a right-of-way application from Sierra Pacific Power Company, operating as NV Energy.

The grant would be issued from BLM to authorize NV Energy to construct, operate and maintain the transmission lines across federal public lands in portions of Carson City and Storey, Lyon and Douglas counties.

An initial public scoping meeting on the proposed project was held in October 2008.

Since that meeting, the BLM has involved the following cooperating agencies: Lyon County, Carson City and the Bureau of Indian Affairs to develop alternatives for the project and is now inviting the public to re-engage in the process to help further refine the alternatives to be analyzed in the EIS.

For further information and to have your name added to the Blackhawk to Heybourne Transmission Line Projects EIS mailing list, send an e-mail message to blackhawkeis@blm.gov, or call Mark Struble at 885-6107.
