The Lyon County Commission meeting that was set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center will be rescheduled, County Manager Jeff Page said Friday.
Commissioners will conduct their regular meeting at 9 a.m. this Thursday in Yerington. The agenda has been changed and will be posted with the changes. The board will not hear or take action on the Dayton Community Center at that meeting, Page said, and he will work with Buildings and Grounds staff and the community groups to schedule a special meeting with the commissioners in Dayton to discuss their community center.
Staff had prepared the agenda for posting as required by the Open Meeting Law but was advised that the notice must be published once a week for two consecutive weeks in a newspaper of general circulation when a meeting is held anywhere other than the county seat, he said.
Page said he sought legal advice from the District Attorney's office and was advised that even though there had been several articles in local newspapers about the meeting being held in Dayton rather than Yerington, those articles did not meet the legal requirements for publication as outlined in NRS 238.
Page said his office apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this delay and takes responsibility for the error.
Those who have questions or concerns can call him at 775-463-6531 or 775-577-5037.
