130 YEARS AGO

All sorts: Mrs. Bowers, the Washoe Seeress, is in the city. Fishing at Lake Tahoe is said to be unusually good now. The English flag was flying on the old George Fryer building, opposite the depot, in honor of the sixty-third anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria.

120 YEARS AGO

The Calico Ball: The Ormsby Council No. 6, Order of Chosen Friends, will turn loose the Calico Ball. A feature of the evening will be the lottery dance. Each young lady will bring a necktie to match the dress she wears, and they will be placed in envelopes and shuffled. The young men will come forward and draw a necktie, and the young lady wearing the dress matching the material will be partner for the dance.

70 YEARS AGO

The Senate and House agreed to provide a base pay of $42 a month for the lowest grades of men in the armed forces. Previously the house had urged a base pay of $50 a month for privates in the army.

50 YEARS AGO

Carson High School Awards: Four graduating seniors were recipients of State Fleischman scholarships - $3,600, Peter Kirk Augustine; $6,000 Tad Daughters; $3,500 Katherine Foote and Ray Walker.

30 YEARS AGO

Photo caption: The historic "Dayton" locomotive is polished by Shirley Burman at a special preview opening of the V & T Railroad museum. The locomotive, originally purchased by the V & T Railroad for a little more than $15,000 recently underwent $90,000 in restoration.

10 YEARS AGO

Safe grads need chaperones. National Best Sellers donated $1,500 to the Carson High School's safe grad, but the pressure is on to find volunteers for the sober graduation celebration at the Carson City Community Center.
