Wild Horse Children’s Theater presents ‘Character Matters’

Wild Horse Children’s Theater announced that fourth and fifth grade students at Fremont Elementary School in Carson City will present “Character Matters,” a musical, Monday afternoon and evening.The first performance for the entire school will be at 1:15 p.m. at the school, 1511 Firebox Road, and the second for family, friends and the community begins there at 7 p.m. Wild Horse received a grant from the Nevada Arts Council for WHCT’s school outreach arts in education. This first effort of the year is being directed by three high school students who have been performing with Wild Horse the past five years.They are Heather Canfield, Payton Henderson and Challen Wright. In addition, music teacher Kyle Kimball worked on the show during music period.“Character Matters” features familiar fairytale characters. Through humor and song it provides character-building lessons, according to Carol Scott, WHCT executive director.OXS Gallery exhibit reception Thursday The Nevada Arts Council will sponsor an artist talk and free reception Thursday for an exhibit opening three days earlier at the council’s OXS Gallery in Carson City.Prints by artist Eunkang Koh will be exhibited from Monday through Nov. 16 in the gallery, which is in the council offices at 716 N. Carson St. The reception Thursday will run from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with guests welcome.In her work, called “A Study of Human,” Koh uses intaglio printmaking to depict creatures that are part animal and part human. “As these creatures interact, they produce ironic gestures that are both humorous and grotesque at the same time,” said Koh, an assistant professor in printmaking at the University of Nevada, Reno.OXS, also known as Office Exhibition Services, is managed by the Artist Services Program of the Nevada Arts Council, a division of Nevada’s Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
