Preservation society meets Nov. 7

The Nevada State Prison Preservation Society is accepting memberships from people who want to be among the early pioneers of an effort to create a museum and tours of the state’s oldest prison.A membership meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Ormsby Room of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, 911 E. Musser St.The volunteer group was formed in recent months to preserve the historic prison on the state capital’s east side. The prison was built in 1862 and is the third-oldest in the West, after only San Quentin and Alcatraz. It was decommissioned in May 2012.“I …
