Thanksgiving comes with a gallop and trot

Two community runs will help Carson City residents prepare for then work off the upcoming Thanksgiving feast.Promoting her personal platform, “running against obesity” Miss Eagle Valley Brooklyn Maw is hosting the Miss Eagle Valley’s 2012 Turkey Trot at Carson High School on Saturday.For those wanting to be proactive, Kaia F.I.T. will hold its fourth annual Gratitude Gallop 5K and 8K on Thanksgiving morning, which is a fundraiser for Food for Thought.“It’s an awesome way to get out and move your feet before you eat,” said owner Nikki Warren. “It’s the biggest meal of the year, so burn some calories and get your family out.”Warren said the distances are short enough that walkers can join in as well. “It’s just a great way to give thanks and be with friends and family and start your Thanksgiving the way it should be — outside in nature with friends.”Registration is $25 and includes a T-shirt. Participants may sign up at Tumbleweeds Gymnastics or active.com.Late registration will be 7 a.m. race day. The race begins at 8 a.m. at the Firkin & Fox. Donations also will be accepted for Food for Thought, a nonprofit organization that discreetly provides meals during the weekend to students in need. Results of the run will be posted after the event at kaiafit.com.The Miss Eagle Valley’s 2012 Turkey Trot will be on the Carson High School track, with a 5K and 4-by-400-meter relay options at 9 a.m. Nov. 24.The cost is free for children 8 and younger, $15 for students $20 for adults.Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.Maw is putting on the event for her senior project to raise funds for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada.
