Brooks says ready to serve, won't take leave

After initially asking for a medical leave of absence, Assemblyman Steven Brooks, D-North Las Vegas, refused to sign the necessary papers, instead telling lower house leadership he is ready to assume his seat and serve.

Assembly Majority Leader William Horne, D-Las Vegas, said Brooks Sunday asked for leave to take care of his physical and psychological issues.

"Today, he informed us he would not take that leave," said Horne. "We anticipate he will be attending all his committee assignments. He says he's ready to come and serve."

Horne andspeaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, D-North Las Vegas, admitted they disagree with that decision. …
