3 new WNC art galleries on display through March; reception Tuesday

In honor of three new art exhibits opening this month, Western Nevada College will host a reception from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday in the College Gallery in the Bristlecone Building at the main campus. The exhibits will be on display through March 22.The Main Gallery will feature artist Andrea Henkels Heidinger's “Transitions,” a sculpture and multimedia exhibition.According to a news release: Heidinger's work explores the artistic possibilities of the waste she and her family create in everyday activities.The artist, who works in Utah, has a master's degree in fine arts/ sculpture from the University of Idaho. Her work has been shown internationally, including at the Invitational Biennale Internazionale dell'Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy.The College Gallery features Lynn Schmidt's “Segments of the Path, a Mini Retrospective.”Her art has roots in Northern Nevada's natural forms. Her most recent work, including “Erractic I,” was inspired by how receding glaciers in the Sierra have affected boulders. She uses a mixed-media process blending watercolor painting and printmaking techniques. Earlier works by Schmidt inspired by the many trucks that transport goods across Nevada also will be on display.Her work has appeared at the Business Resource Innovation Center in Carson City, Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, The Windows in Reno, Wild Flower Village in Reno, Washoe County Library in Reno, and South Reno United Methodist Church.The Western Nevada College Student Photography Exhibit is on display in the Atrium Gallery.Student contributors include Lynette Carlson, with outdoor photographs “Starburst” and “Shades of Summer,” and Ty O'Neil's “VC at Midnight” and “The Seasons End.”Exhibiting students are from Don Edgington's beginning darkroom photography class, Jayna Conkey's beginning digital photography classes, and Dr. Hal Starratt's digital color photography class.IF YOU GOWhat: Western Nevada College's public reception for new art exhibitsWhen: 5-6 p.m. TuesdayExhibits: Andrea Henkels Heidinger's “Transitions” in the Main Gallery; Lynn Schmidt's “Segments of the Path, a Mini Retrospective” in the Gallery; the Western Nevada College Student Photography Exhibit in the Atrium GalleryWhere: College Gallery, Bristlecone Building, WNC, 2201 West College ParkwayCall: 775-445-3235
