Luke quietly passed into the Lord's arms on Friday, March 1, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. A life long resident of Carson Valley. Luke was born April 10, 1916 to Chris H. Neddenriep and Kate Heitman Neddenriep.
High school graduation was June 1934 and that same year he attended the University of Nevada in the fall. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Luke joined the US Navy and served four years as a signalman, second class.
He worked with his father, Chris for years at the Carson Valley Mercantile and in 1960, he and his wife, Martha, became owners. They managed the business for 17 more years.
Serving the community in which he lived was important to Luke. It was lucky for him that the Gardnerville Fire Station was located just a quick run from "The Merc" when he served as a volunteer fireman. As the community grew he served on the Gardnerville Town Water Board for 30 years and the Minden-Gardnerville Sewer District for 29. He was also a member of Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley.
Luke enjoyed fishing in the Alpine lakes of the Sierras, as well as deer hunting. Horse back riding was a special time for Louis. He rode his horse, Frosty, in the Wolf Creek Wilderness into his 80s.
Luke married Martha C. Neddenriep, June 15, 1952. She predeceased him in 2008. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage, raising three children. He is survived by his sons, Douglas (Charlene) and David (Barbara) Neddenriep; and daughter, Katie (Pete) Sarratea; and his seven grandchildren, Lizann Stover, Kristie Calder, Kurt Neddenriep, John Neddenriep, Bonnie Jones, Amanda Blackmon, and Rebecca Murphy. Luke's family was all important to him. He loved time spent with all of his children, grandchildren and the many great-grandchildren who survive him.
Louis was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church. his burial service will take place at Garden Cemetery, on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11 a. m. Lunch will follow at the family home.
