Color guard presents tribute to nation

SANFRANCISCO - On the visitor's side of the infield, four members from the Churchill County High School Naval ROTC Color Guard listened to last-minute instructions from their instructor.

Prior to the high school's choir singing the national anthem, the NJROTC color guard had been practicing its movement to the outfield's edge and at a position in front of the choir.

"I'm more anxious than nervous," said Shane Groover, who carried the United State flag onto the field. "I never get tired of this because it's good experience."

Lt. Col. (ret.) John Theisen, Fallon's first-year NJROTC instructor, walked back and forth in front of the color guard.

"I'm more nervous than they are," he said.

Theisen, though, said he was confident his color guard would carry out its task in a professional manner.

"We practiced on the baseball field in Fallon, and that's where we got our bearings," he said. "This (AT&T Park) is about the same size of our baseball field."

He said for a NJROTC squad to march out (in a professional game) with the colors is an honor.

"This is big time," he said.

Cameron Clawson, a two-year ROTC member, said his classmates were more than ready. Earlier this spring, Fallon's NJROTC color guard won the regional meet.

The other two members of the color guard included Jon Ansotegui and Artem Kutsoloshcenko.
