ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say the body of an elderly Elko man reported missing early this month was found in his parked pickup truck, dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot.
Elko County Undersheriff Doug Gailey said Monday that 78-year-old Louis Tempel was found in his vehicle Sunday by a rancher moving cattle in the Twin Bridges area west of Spring Creek.
Gailey says a .380 caliber handgun found with Tempel had recently been purchased, and still had price tags on it.
An air search failed to find Tempel after he was reported missing. Family members had said he failed to pick up a friend to go fishing during the June 4-5 weekend.
