Carson motorcyclist injured in suspected racing crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a 28-year-old Carson City man as the motorcyclist who was thrown from his 2004 Suzuki in a crash with a BMW that temporarily shut down four lanes of interstate in Reno after authorities say the two were racing faster than 100 mph.

NHP says Justin Stevens was thrown several hundred feet after the two vehicles collided Thursday on I-580 just north of the Glendale exit and south of I-80 near the Grand Sierra Resort.

The BMW sedan driven by 34-year-old Dietrich DeJean of Reno skidded out of control and came to rest on its wheels near the center median.

Stevens suffered road rash to much of his body and was hospitalized, but his injuries are not life-threatening.

The incident remains under investigation.
