Update: Charges dropped in child sex case

Update: Charges against Ronald Leiken were dismissed by the Carson City District Attorney’s Office.

Ronald Leiken will face trial Oct. 21 on charges he sexually assaulted a child younger than 14.

Leiken, 49, was arraigned Monday before Carson District Judge Todd Russell and entered pleas of not guilty to two counts of sexual assault against a child and one count of lewdness with a child under 14.

All three counts are Category A felonies, the most serious class of crimes, and each carries a maximum life sentence. The lewdness count carries a minimum 10 years in prison; the two sexual assault charges each carry a minimum of 35 years in prison.

Leiken was arrested in November 2012. He is free on $100,000 bail pending his three-day trial.

In addition, Russell ordered a May 13 trial for David Alan Stone, 59, who faces two counts of sexually assaulting a child younger than 14. Stone remains in jail.

Finally, Russell ordered a 16- to 72-month prison sentence for Phelon Brown of Carson City. He pleaded guilty to burglary under a plea bargain. His original charges included home invasion and battery with substantial bodily harm against his former girlfriend.
