A fundraiser tonight at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar will benefit the eighth annual Holiday with a Hero program, which provides a Christmas shopping spree for the city’s neediest children.
“We are trying to give them a positive day right before Christmas,” said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzales. “Because of their community and their support, that’s the only way we’re able to do this.”
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a disc jockey and raffle prizes. All proceeds will go to Holiday with a Hero, which pairs police, firefighters, National Guardsmen and other officials with children in the Carson City School District’s Children in Transition program for a shopping trip at Walmart on Dec. 17. The school program serves children living in motels, cars or doubling up with other families.
Gonzales said they are hoping to give $100 shopping cards to 200 children this year.
“We’re about halfway to our goal,” he said.
Donations may also be made at Bank of the West, 2976 N. Carson St., under Account No. 025761072. The tax identification number is 80-0763632.
Checks, made payable to “Holiday with a Hero,” can be mailed to:
PO Box 2790, Carson City, NV 89702
They may also be dropped off at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, 911 E. Musser St.
