An elderly man who shot and wounded a woman today at Carson Tahoe hospital is in custody, and the woman had emergency surgery and was taken to Renown hospital.
According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong:
William Dresser, 88, fired one shot about 11:30 a.m. on the hospital’s third floor. The hospital was locked down but reopened a short time later. No one else was hurt.
Dresser was detained by Department of Security personnel who were securing a different patient on the ward.
Detectives have left the hospital and are working with the District Attorney’s Office on charges.
Furlong wouldn’t reveal how the man and woman knew each other than to say they were in a domestic relationship.
No one else was hurt. The shooting comes about a month after a shooting at Renown hospital in Reno left two people dead, including the gunman.
