Navy League of Carson City to meet Nov. 16 at Gold Dust West

The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States will honor veterans, pay tribute to MIAs and POWs and celebrate the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays at its November meeting.

The speaker will be Captain Robert T. Wiley, plankowner master of USNS Carson City, (T-EPF 7). Captain Wiley assumed this command on Jan. 16, when the USNS Carson City was christened at Austal USA Shipyards in Mobile, Ala. Captain Wiley has had a long and illustrious career with the Military Sealift Command including commands of both USNS Mercy and USNS Comfort. He and his wife Pamela have lived in Carson City for the past 24 years.

The dinner meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, 2171 Highway 50 E. The social hour is at 5:30 followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. For reservations, call Bud Southard, 775-882-7960. The price is $27 per person and there is a choice of baked chicken caprese or sliced roast beef with mushroom gravy.

The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 and is a civilian organization with more than 50,000 members dedicated to educating American citizens and elected officials about the importance of sea power to U.S national security and supporting the men and women of the sea services and their families. The Carson City Council sponsors and supports Navy and Marine personnel at Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center near Bridgeport, Calif. and NAS Fallon, NV, as well as, the Carson High Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Command.
