NV Energy offering $50 to recycle old refrigerators
June 10, 2015
NV Energy is asking customers to consider getting rid of that old refrigerator or freezer wasting energy in the garage.
The company is willing to haul the old appliance away for free and to give those who participate a $50 check. The program is called the Second Refrigerator Recycling Program.
"By getting what are often older, inefficient refrigerators and freezers off the grid, a customer can reduce their energy costs up to $100 a year," said Pat Egan, senior vice president for customer operations.
Each old fridge can be recycled, yielding about 150 pounds of metal, 25 pounds of plastic and three pounds of glass.
Egan said to schedule a pick-up date, customers should call 877-289-8260 or visit nvenergy.com/refrigerator. Machines that qualify have to be in working condition and have a storage capacity of at least 10 cubic feet.
