Babes in Toyland' performances planned
Wild Horse Children's Theater is putting on a classic holiday musical whose characters are based on those of "Mother Goose."
"Babes in Toyland" will play at 7 p.m. Fridays; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays from Dec. 4 through 13 in the Brewery Arts Center's Performance Hall, 511 W. King St.
Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and students and $5 for ages 4-12 and can be purchased on line at http://www.wildhorsetheater.com, or by calling 775-887-0438, or, if available, at the door.
Carson Colony's Christmas craft fair set
Indian tacos and nearly 50 vendors will be on hand at a Christmas craft faire from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 4-5 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 6 in the gymnasium of Carson Colony, 2900 S. Curry St.

Foster, adoptive parent training planned
The next foster/adoptive parent training in Carson City is planned from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5, 6 and 12 in the Valley View Room of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, 1600 Medical Parkway.
Attendees are asked to enter through the main hospital entrance, then take elevator A to the third floor. The Valley View Room is at the left of the elevator vestibule.

Christmas dance party planned
High Sierra Swing Dance Club is presenting its Christmas dance party on Dec. 5 in the Brewery Arts Center's Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St.
There will not be a lesson. A members appreciation dinner catered by Mitch Tufts will be at 6:30 p.m. Join the club that night, and dinner and dance are free. Otherwise, the dinner costs $10 per person. The social dance is 7:30-10 p.m. with DJ Steve Wood. The dance costs $7 for members of swing clubs and $10 for nonmembers. Artist hosting open studio Dec. 5
A local watercolor and oil painter is hosting an open studio from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at 720 Addler Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
Teri Sweeney's 6th Annual Open Studio will feature her latest original artwork, prints and cards. This year, two miniatures, which will be shown in February at the Settlers West Miniature Show in Tucson, Ariz., will be displayed.
"Morning Mist," which won Best of Show in the CVAA Scholarship Show in Minden, will be on display and for sale. There will be a blind auction with no minimum bid for one of her pieces.
Sweeney teaches weekly intermediate painting and beginning oil classes at her studio. Visitors at the open studio can take a look at her classroom demonstration pieces by Sweeney and Ann Proffitt, who will also be showing work at the event. Annual Elks Hoop Shoot planned
Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 is hosting its annual Hoop Shoot, open to children ages 8-13 as of April 1, 2016, on Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.
There's no cost to compete. Registration is at 9 a.m. on the day of the event, with the Hoop Shoot beginning at 10. Each contestant will shoot 25 free throws in his or her age category. Tennis shoes are mandatory. Winners will advance to the district competition in Reno on Jan. 16 at Wooster High School, followed by the state competition in Hawthorne, regionals in Las Vegas, and nationals in Chicago.
