Failure to yield leads to accident

Two Fallon men suffered serious injuries Friday afternoon in a two-car collision on the Reno Highway.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Rex D. Lybbert, 69, of Fallon failed to yield at Roberson Lane, which faces Sheckler Cut-off, in his Dodge Dakota pickup. He drove directly into the path of Reynaldo Ayala, 51, also of Fallon, who was driving a four-door Toyota Camry and heading westbound. No other passengers were in the vehicle.

The NHP report stated Ayala attempted to avoid hitting Lybbert by steering hard to the right, but he was unable to avoid contact and struck Lybbert. Ayala’s car rotated clockwise and struck the right rear of Lybbert’s truck.

The report further stated Lybbert’s vehicle rolled on its top facing northwest.

Paramedics transported both men to Banner Churchill Community Hospital in serious condition. Lybbert was treated and released, while Ayala was transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno with head injuries.

The Fallon Churchill Fire Department was also called out in case an extrication was needed.

Lybbert was cited for failure to yield the right away said an NHP trooper.
