Nevada Appeal staff report

Carson Valley Arts Council is hosting Annie Bosko, a Season 8 American Idol semifinalist, on Jan. 22.

A country singer who was a semifinalist on Season 8 of American Idol is performing in Minden's CVIC Hall on Friday, Jan. 22.

Carson Valley Arts Council is hosting an evening of music by Annie Bosko, a singer, songwriter and performer, at 7 p.m.

Bosko, whose father is a third-generation farmer, is the middle of five children. Her first taste of the business was singing for a Disney sound track at the age of 14, but an affinity for songwriting pulled her toward Nashville.

Bosko has performed as opening or backing vocal slots with Darius Rucker, Adele, Josh Groban, Dierks Bentley, Big and Rich and Josh Turner. She performed the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star game. She also sang demos for some of the biggest hits on the radio.

The release of Bosko's first EP, "Fighter," includes the song of the same name along with "Crooked Halo," "Wings," "You Looked Like I Need a Drink," "Cash," and "Coal Black Heart." The singer said the collection represents her determination.

"It's sort of a ministry to people, because everyone is fighting in their own way," she said. "The idea was to really let this song be a banner that we can all carry in those times when we need it most."
