Gene Evaro Jr., Silver next to star in Carson City music series
July 11, 2017
Live music will fill Carson City's Minnesota Street stage when the Brewery Arts Center continues its free music series on Saturday.
Starting out with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and continuing with The Novelists, Athena McIntyre, Guitar Shorty and Grace Hayes, the series will continue with a performance by Gene Evaro Jr. and Silver.
This week's show will be kicked off by Silver at 7 p.m. Silver brands itself as American roots music. The band draws influence from rock 'n' roll's various incarnations, from edgy vocals to Americana-esque chord progressions, and an occasional funk guitar line.
Headlining the performance will be Gene Evaro Jr., who mixes the folk magic of Paul Simon with funk fashion of Sly & The Family Stone and lyrical poetry reminiscent of Jim Morrison.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series presents 10 free family-friendly concerts.
The series has a diverse lineup of talent left to present spanning genres including reggae, Southern rock, cumbia and bluegrass.
Continuing the series on July 22 is La Misa Negra, an eight-piece band from Oakland, Calif., that plays a blend of 1950s and '60s style cumbia and high-energy Afro-Colombian dance music.
Rounding out this month on July 29 is Nashville's Southern Drawl Band, a country band with a twist of lime distilled in the backwoods of Tennessee.
Fresh off Coachella, psychedelic cumbia-punk trio Thee Commons will perform on Aug. 5, and reggae royalty Marla Brown on Aug. 12.
Five-piece electric newgrass group Dusty Green Bones will take the stage on Aug. 26 with the Cherry Pickers opening. Irish Rockers and Young Dubliners will end the series on Sept. 2.
The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn and lot setting.
Food trucks, libations and kids activities will be available at each of the shows. Pets on leash are welcomed.
The Levitt AMP concert series is at 449 W. King St. at the corner of King and Minnesota streets. Admission is free.
