‘Menopause the Musical’ showing in Reno
May 2, 2013
RENO — The Off-Broadway hit that was inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, "Menopause the Musical," is appearing in the Eldorado Showroom.
Set in a department store, four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra on sale, come to find they have more to share than ever imagined. The all-female cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges. A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realize that menopause is no longer "The Silent Passage," but a stage in every woman's life that is perfectly normal!
"Most women know intuitively that every other woman is experiencing hot flashes or night sweats," says author Jeanie Linders. "There is always a close friend or two who can sympathize or identify, but when they are sitting in a theatre with hundreds of other women, all laughing and shouting 'That's me! That's me on stage!' They know what they are experiencing is normal. They aren't alone or crazy. It becomes a sisterhood."
The women share their ups and downs through a collection of 25 re-lyricized baby boomer songs from the '60s, '70s and '80s. Disco hit "Stayin' Alive" becomes "Stayin' Awake," Motown favorite "My Guy" is transformed into "My Thighs," and "Puff The Magic Dragon" becomes the anthem to exercise, "Puff, My God I'm Draggin'."
Menopause The Musical was written by Jeanie Linders and produced by South Florida-based GFour Productions. The show has been seen by more than 10 million people world-wide since it debuted in 2001 in a 76-seat perfume-shop-turned-theatre in Orlando, Florida.
See what millions of women worldwide have been laughing about for more than a decade. Tickets are$24.95 with dinner and show packages available from $34.95. Performances nightly except Monday. For more information on show times and tickets call 1-800-648-5966 or visit http://www.eldoradoreno.com.
