The Department of Motor Vehicles has launched a new queuing system they say will revolutionize waiting in line for services.
The computerized system will let customers place themselves in a virtual line by text, phone, on line or at a DMV self-service terminal. Once in line, customers will get updates by text telling them how many are ahead of them in line and providing a time estimate of when they should be there to get services.
“It changes the whole dynamic of waiting in line at the DMV,” said Director Troy Dillard.
He said instead of arranging their schedule to accommodate waiting at DMV, customers will be able to avoid waiting at a DMV office and instead, show up when it’s their turn.
He said Nevada will be one of the first states to use the new system for multiple functions including vehicle registrations, drivers’ licenses, identification cards and driver histories.
The system called Dash Pass is available in both the Reno and Carson City offices. Las Vegas will get the system in July.
