Las Vegas has an excellent chance of hosting the Republican National Convention in 2016, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki told members of the Douglas County Central Committee at their annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner last Sunday.
Krolicki, along with Sen. Dean Heller, Rep. Mark Amodei and Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald spoke to a full house.
The dinner's theme was Nevada's sesquicentennial and featured the largest crowd in many years, officials said, including a surge of walk-ins.
Heller, Amodei and McDonald entertained the crowd with a lighthearted review of Republican successes. They also highlighted the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in 2014. Several other elected officials and candidates from across Nevada attended the dinner in preparation for the 2014 election.
Krolicki shared memories of his years of service. He is term-limited as lieutenant governor. He also served as state treasurer and was a member of the Douglas County Planning Commission.
He said his work isn't over as Nevadans continue to celebrate the Sesquicentennial through Nevada Day 2014. Krolicki said Nevada's application to host the Republican National Convention in Las Vegas in 2016 appears to have a very good chance of success.
"The event was a sellout — a huge success," said Central Committee Chairman Marco Caldana. "Our event committee, the Carson Valley Inn, our elected leaders, and enthusiastic attendees made this evening a rousing success. Tonight's success, and that of our sister county's dinners prove that Nevadans are getting engaged to represent and protect their Conservative values."
Next up for the central committee is the county convention on March 8, where party principles are debated and defined and delegates selected for the Nevada Republican Convention.
