All schools reunion slated for mid-August
June 10, 2014
The Mayor's NV 150 Commission is planning a community reunion on Aug. 16 -17.
All Churchill County schools' alumni, teachers, families and friends are encouraged to attend the activities. The headquarters for the reunion is the Fallon Youth Club's building (the former school district administration building) at the southeast end of Oats Park.
The weekend featues a variety of activities. An open swim will be offered at the Fallon City Pool. Both the Old High School and Oats Park Art Center will be open for touring and Dusty 45s bring their music to the Centennial Stage at Oats Park Saturday evening. Bring your lawn chairs and plan to buy dinner either from the Fallon Youth Cub or the Slanted Porch.
A no-host breakfast will be served from 8-11 a.m. on Sunday at the Elks Hall where so many past reunions were held. The reunion committee hopes to make this an annual event on the third weekend of every August.
Additionally, the Class of 1964 is having its 50th class reunion during the same weekend and will join the community reunion as part of their activities as will the classes of 1959 and 1970. Individuals might suggest to their class, students, friends or family to meet as a group during this third weekend to have an extra fun time.
If people are interested in obtaining more information or can help the committee gather names of "reunion planners" and attendees for specific years, contact Susan Saxton McCormick at 775-423-5465, Edna Price Dianda at 775-423-9716 or Bunny Cushman Corkill at the Churchill County Museum, 775-423-3677. People can also email the reunion committee at communityreunionfallon@gmail. (The committee is making a data base of names and contact numbers, email or home addresses to send information.)
The committee needs everyone's help to spread the word to make this into an annual community event, one where people can count on seeing classmates, friends, teachers or those who support the schools.
