County museum announces fall activities

Dan Ingram
Churchill County Museum

The musuem is the center for many events and activities such as the time capsule project two years ago. The musuem now has a logo contest and and is also asking residents to bring in their Christmas memory photos for scanning.

The Churchill County Museum Association is sponsoring a logo contest for the Churchill County Museum.

Following the lead of Churchill County, the association has decided to make the creation of a new logo a community project. In addition to bragging rights, the winner of the contest will receive $250.

The Churchill County Museum is a public private partnership of Churchill County and the Churchill County Museum Association. The museum's mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit and share those artifacts, photographs and documents that serve to illustrate the story of man and nature in Churchill County.

Over the years, the museum has used a variety of logos and images including a steam tractor, the Woodliff store building, tule ducks and baskets and projectile points.

We are seeking to unify our graphic image and build an identifiable brand. It can be confusing if you use one image on a billboard, another on your letterhead and still another on a T-shirt or a banner. Since, Churchill County was so successful with their logo contest, the Museum Board thought this was a great opportunity to involve the public in the creation of the new logo for the museum.

The contest is open to the public. The winner of the contest agrees to transfer all rights of the winning design to the Museum Association.

To that end, we will hold three special scanning days on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Nov. 20. While you can drop off your pictures to be scanned any time, I will be here on those specific dates to complete the scanning process while you wait. You will be able to keep an eye on your treasures while the job is being done — and perhaps learn a bit about scanning techniques.

The museum is holding a silent auction and sale of canvas gallery prints and gently used exhibition prints. The museum will be auctioning and selling canvas prints and gently used exhibition prints made from digital images in its collection.
