Fallon's Raymond Plasse chips onto the green during a tournament last week in Elko.

Down eight with three to go.

It's where the Fallon golf team stands in its chase to reach the No. 3 position in the Northern Division I-A standings after last week's tournaments in Elko and Spring Creek.

The Greenwave cracked the top three in Thursday's event at Spring Creek, shooting a 443 to nip Truckee, the team sitting in front of Fallon.

The Wave currently has 29 points, while the Wolverines have 37 with tournaments at Lowry, South Tahoe and Truckee remaining. Fallon and its foes hit the links on Thursday in Winnemucca.

On Wednesday, Fallon carded a 459 in Elko to place fifth, while Truckee was second.

Leading the charge is Elko with 43 followed by Spring Creek 39 and Lowry also lurking in fifth with 27.

But for the Wave to earn the third team spot in the DI-A state tournament, they must finish the season third or better, while Truckee must fall behind Fallon in order for the Wave to slip past.

Although the team chances are slim, Fallon currently has two golfers in the top six from non-qualifying teams slated to reach state.

Corbin Waite and Raymond Plasse sit third and fourth, respectively, while Kelvin Cann is chasing down South Tahoe's Jackson Olsen for the sixth spot.

Waite leads Fallon with an 83.3 scoring average, while Plasse is second at 83.6. Waite carded an 89 at Elko and followed with a season-high of 92 at Spring Creek. Plasse, meanwhile, shot a 93 in Elko, but rebounded with an 84 at Spring Creek.

Cann, meanwhile, is just 1.4 strokes behind Olsen, although Olsen did not compete last week. Cann recorded an 89 and 88 to jump into contention for the sixth spot.

As for the rest of the Wave golfers, Jeff Evett carded a 95 and 89, Jake Kirsch shot a 105 and 90, Nick Smith had season-lows of 93 and 92.
