The Dusty 45s highlight free in-the-park concert
July 31, 2014
The second of this summer’s free in-the-park concerts is set for Aug. 16 on the Centennial Stage in Oats Park in front of the Art Center.
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Art Center’s galleries with new exhibitions on view and Art Bar will be open following the show.
Get together with family and friends for an evening of outstanding music under the stars. Bring your own picnic supper and the Fallon Youth Club will also be selling food and beverages in the park beginning at 5 p.m.
For information on the concert, call Churchill Arts at 775-423-1440.
The show will feature the Seattle-based band Billy Joe & The Dusty 45s. This swinging outfit was named Best Band by readers of the “Seattle Weekly” three years in a row.
They have a reputation for firing up the crowd wherever they play. The band has been described as having “rousing horns, sizzling original numbers and genuine talent.” One critic went on to note that “if there’s a saloon in hell, the Dusty 45s will always have a place to play.”
Their repertoire includes some nods the countryesque twang, a little jump blues and some old pure old rock ‘n’ roll including a rave-up cover of Dick Dale’s “Miserlou.”

The quintet is led by Billy Joe Huels who contributes both guitar and vocals as well as trumpet which, by the end of their shows, usually literally ends up on fire. He’s backed up by lead guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. For more information on the band, visit their website: http://www.dusty45s.com
There will also be several Nevada Sesquicentennial events going on the day of the concert.
These will include an all-class community reunion and the City of Fallon’s Live Local Grand Prize Car Raffle and the Elks’ breakfast on the following morning, Aug. 17. We’ll have more information on these events in the coming weeks.
