Transcendence conducts ribbon-cutting

Joan Deegan moved from Portland, Ore., to Fallon in August, but in less than nine months, she has fallen in love with the community and the charm it offers.

Deegan married longtime Fallon resident Cody Deegan one year ago, but she was hesitant to move to central Nevada. She hasn't regretted relocating from the Pacific Northwest to the Great Basin as she started another phase of her life.

A native of New York state, Deegan opened her business, Transcendence Health and Wellness, in January at 5083 Reno Highway but recently had a ribbon cutting conducted by the Fallon Chamber of Commerce to give her the "official" welcome to the Lahontan Valley.

During the grand opening and open house, Transcendence offered face-painting by Ivy, a table from Country Health, information from Shanti Yoga, a child ID station offered by the Fallon Masonic Lodge, Churchill Animal Protection Society, wine and cheese and a bounce house as well as massage, bodywork and yoga demonstrations.

Deegan doesn't have set office hours because she works by appointment only.

Deegan said she opened a similar business in Portland, and after moving to Fallon, she decided to continue with her passion. She has extensive training and experience in massage, hypnosis, Reiki and craniosacral therapy. She continued her studies in sports and clinical therapies and later added traditional Thailand massage. She holds licenses from Washington and Oregon as well as in Nevada.

Deegan said she has taken the traditional Thailand massage technique and moved it from the floor to the table.

Her website and Facebook page offer additional information on the services she offers.

"I love what I do," she said, and that's evident by the rapport she has with her clients. "When I'm open, I'm excited when people driving by stop and come in."

Eventually, Deegan would like to bring in an acupuncturist and other health professionals to her business.

Currently, Nikki Collier has been offering yoga classes during the weeknights and on Saturday morning, but she will soon be relocating. Collier said individuals may call her at 775-250-6221 to inquire about her yoga program.
