The Truckee-Carson Project. The transformation of a large section in the old 40 Mile Desert of Nevada into an agricultural region of prosperity and beauty is described by F. B. Headly, the expert in charge of the department of agricultural farms at Fallon, Nev.

Churchill County Eagle— March 18, 1913

Welcome Storm Comes. The storm this week seems to have been quite general throughout the mountain region, and the Farmers of Nevada are rejoicing. The reports showed 12 inches in Reno, 7 feet at Truckee, 8 feet at Blue Canyon and 11 feet at the summit. As usual, the snowfall in this valley was very light−only a little over an inch−which soon melted.

Farmers Urged to Aid Fight on Squirrels Here The ground squirrel problem promises to be even more serious this year than last. Casual observation shows larger numbers of adult squirrels this year than at the same time last year. The young will not appear until after the middle of April. It therefore seems wise to kill as many squirrels as possible early in the season.

Commissioners Cut 17¢ off 1939 Tax Rate

Total for City of Fallon Property Fixed at $4.62. The Churchill county commissioners have cut $.176 off the county tax rate for 1938 according to the budget approved by the board this week. This means that on a total county valuation of $8,268,000, the reduction in the amount of tax money asked for will be $14, 551.

Horse Racing Association to be Formed. A meeting will be held at City Hall by persons interested in forming a horse racing association in this area. At this meeting a date will be set for the first races to be held this year at the Fallon race track.

Scheelite Mine Road set for Construction. Construction of a paved road from U.S. 50 south to the Scheelite mine in northern Mineral County is programmed to begin in the next two months.

Cropland Located near Air Station to be Leased by the Navy. The Navy Department proposes to lease cropland located near the U.S. Naval Auxiliary Air Station at Fallon. Leases will be on a ten year basis.
