Roy Anthony Marenco, a 24-year Gardnerville resident, passed away on March 10, 2013 at Merrill Gardens Gardnerville.
Born May 8, 1922 in San Francisco, California, to Pietro and Rosa Marenco. Roy spent his early years growing up in the Bay View district of San Francisco. At the age of 20, Roy enlisted in the Army Air Corps and worked as an electrician and crew member aboard B-29s and B-24s while stationed in Alabama.
After receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, Roy began his 32-year career with Pacific Telephone, retiring in 1988 as a PBX installation foreman.
In 1948 Roy married his wife of 56 years, Virginia Janowicz, and together they raised 10 children while living in Southern California. In 1989 Roy and Virginia relocated to Gardnerville to further enjoy their retirement years. Together they traveled, camped and fished their way across the entire United States.
In 2010 Roy moved to Merrill Gardens in Gardnerville, where he made many new friends in the residents and staff and served as President of the Residents’ Council.
Roy was an active member of Saint Gall Catholic Church and participated in many groups within the Church, including New Beginners, Oblates and faith journey group, also attending daily Rosary and daily Mass.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, who passed away in December 2003; he is survived by his 10 children, Paula Lindeman (Jeff) of Camarillo, CA, Linda Castillo (Henry) of Carson City, NV, Virginia Towner (Rick) of Gardnerville, NV, Steve Marenco of San Diego, CA, Greg Marenco (Maureen) of Gardnerville, NV, Andy Marenco of Banning, CA, Jim Marenco (Elaine) of Palmdale, CA, Jeanne Cooley (Chad) of Carson City, NV, Vicki Favela (Manuel) of Loma Rica, CA and Marian Salazar (Dennis) of Santa Clarita, CA; 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be held Friday, March 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Resurrection 11 a.m., at Saint Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville. Burial will be at Mottsville Cemetery at a later date.
Our family would like to express our appreciation for the wonderful care Roy received from the staff at Merrill Gardens and from VistaCare Hospice Services during his final days.
